Privacy Policy

Introduction

At Tell Mel, your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you interact with our services, including AI-driven interviews and the creation of legacy books and biographical archives.

First-Party Purchase Measurement

When our location and consent policy permits it, Tell Mel uses its own first-party measurement to understand how visitors move from a public page through signup, account creation, pricing, Checkout, and a confirmed purchase. We record a closed set of event names and low-cardinality categories. We do not put form values, passwords, payment-card details, recordings, transcripts, memoir text, search terms, or page content in these events.

Raw purchase-journey events are retained for up to 13 months. Confirmed payment records remain the source of truth for purchases. Older reporting keeps only approved aggregate counts, with small or identifying groups withheld. You can use the Analytics preference control on our pages to allow or decline this optional measurement. Declining does not prevent you from using Tell Mel.

This first-party measurement is separate from Google Analytics, the Meta Pixel, advertising, and sale or sharing choices. We honor Global Privacy Control for those third-party sale or sharing technologies.

Information We Collect

  • Personal Information: Includes your name, email address, phone number, mailing or shipping address, and the biographical content you or your Narrator provide (including voice recordings of interview calls, transcripts, written text, and photos).
  • Payment and Subscription Information: When you make a purchase — whether a subscription, a one-time purchase, or add-on hours — our payment processor (Stripe) collects and processes your payment details. We receive limited billing information such as your plan, subscription status, and transaction history; we do not store full payment-card numbers.
  • Usage Data: Information on how you use our services, such as interaction logs, session data, and analytics.
  • Cookies and Tracking Technologies: We use cookies and similar technologies, including analytics and advertising cookies, to understand usage and improve our services. You can control cookies through your browser settings and, where offered, our cookie controls.

How We Use Your Information

  • To Provide Services: Create personalized legacy books and biographical archives.
  • To Improve Our Services: Content may be used to maintain and improve our services and AI tools. We limit and safeguard the information used for this purpose, and we do not use recordings to build voiceprints or to clone or synthesize anyone’s voice.
  • To Target Recommendations: We may use your data to provide tailored recommendations or suggestions, but content is not shared with third parties for advertising.
  • To Communicate: For account-related communications, updates, and notifications.

Information Sharing and Disclosure

We share your data only with trusted partners essential for providing our services, including:

  • Technology Providers: Telephony, voice, transcription, and AI providers that help us conduct and process interviews (such as Twilio, Anthropic, and OpenAI), and cloud-storage providers that host your content.
  • Payment Processor: Stripe processes subscription and add-on payments; your use of Stripe is subject to its own terms and privacy policy.
  • Analytics Providers: Services like Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel to track and analyze usage.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We ensure that all partners are contractually obligated to protect your data.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service, is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Recordings and Voice Data

Interview calls are conducted by phone (including using automated and AI-assisted voice technology) and are recorded so we can transcribe them and create your memoir. We disclose at the start of each call that it is being recorded. We use recordings and transcripts only to provide and improve the services; we do not use them to create a voiceprint or other biometric identifier, and we do not clone or synthesize anyone’s voice.

Data Retention

We retain your personal information and content (including recordings, transcripts, and generated memoirs) for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the services and meet our legal obligations. You may request deletion of your content at any time by contacting [email protected], and we will delete it unless we are required to retain it by law.

Your Rights

  • Access: Request access to your personal data.
  • Correction: Ask for corrections to inaccurate data.
  • Deletion: Request data deletion, subject to legal or operational needs.
  • Opt-Out: Decline targeted advertising or analytics tracking by contacting us at [email protected].

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the CCPA:

  • Right to Know: You may request a list of personal data we have collected about you in the past 12 months.
  • Right to Delete: You can request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
  • Right to Correct: You may request that we correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell your personal information for money. We do use analytics and advertising cookies (such as Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel), which may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. We automatically honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal: if your browser or extension sends it, we do not load these analytics/advertising cookies for that visit. You may also opt out by contacting us or by using any “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” controls we offer.
  • Right to Limit Sensitive Information: To the extent any information we collect is treated as “sensitive personal information,” you may request that we limit its use to providing the services.
  • Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights.

To exercise your CCPA rights, please contact us at [email protected].

Data Security

We employ encryption, secure access controls, and regular system audits to safeguard your data. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Children’s Privacy

Our services are intended only for adults 18 and older and are not directed to minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 (and never from children under 13). If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.

Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. Updates will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
